Venturing out from the studio to the road, Soulsavers were invited to support Depeche Mode on the European leg of the band's vast 2010 Tour of the Universe. Here, the seeds of The Light The Dead See were sewn. With Gahan penning lyrics for the music and recording his own vocals in New York, then Machin building up the results into fully-formed and arranged epics, the international project was a case of "chemistry working". The album was mastered at Abbey Road earlier this year.
"There was no real script," says Rich Machin of the extraordinary fourth album 'The Light The Dead See', a set of songs of majesty and momentum. "It just rolled and rolled; it was effortless." Joining forces with Dave Gahan it immediately became clear that this was going to be something very special. "We realised we were coming from the same place in so many ways," adds Machin. "He's really laid himself bare on this record, his contribution is astonishing." Says Gahan, "Everything about it was relatively unplanned, surprising: a magical thing. We were a perfect match and I'm very, very excited about this record." Soulsavers - the music and production team of Rich Machin and Ian Glover - have been a growing force since 2003's debut 'Tough Guys Don't Dance'. 2007's 'It's Not How Far You Fall, It's The Way You Land' brought their dark flair to a wider audience. The inimitable Mark Lanegan served as primary singer, though there were also vocal contributions from Will Oldham and Jimi Goodwin. In 2009, third album 'Broken' confirmed that Soulsavers were moving away from early electronica to earthier guitars, use of space and what Machin described as "a soulful twist". Lanegan again led the vocals on stand-outs such as 'You Will Miss Me When I Burn' and 'All The Way Down', with other guest vocalists including Oldham again, Jason Pierce, Richard Hawley, Mike Patton and Gibby Haynes. Clearly, there was no shortage of acclaimed singers ready to lend their lungs to Soulsavers' stirring, seductive, soothing or startling creations.
Following the single release of "Man Made Machine" (featuring vocals from Mr Gore), MOTOR have released their full length "Man Made Machine" album. MOTOR have recorded a song based album with some of the most intriguing voices of the world of electronic music, such as Martin L. Gore, Gary Numan, Douglas McCarthy, Billie Ray Martin and Reni Lane.
You can purchase the album on both Beatport and iTunes.

"It was a complete collaboration. There was no real script, Dave brought a lot to the table" says the laconic Rich Machin of the extraordinary fourth album 'The Light The Dead See', a set of songs of majesty and momentum. "It just rolled and rolled; it was effortless." Joining forces with Dave Gahan it immediately became clear that this was going to be something very special. "We realised we were coming from the same place in so many ways," adds Machin. "He's really laid himself bare on this record, his contribution is astonishing." Venturing out from the studio to the road, Soulsavers were invited to support Depeche Mode on the European leg of their vast and eventful 2009-10 Tour Of The Universe, during which tour Dave Gahan bounced back from more than his fair share of illness and injury. Here, the seeds of 'The Light The Dead See' were sewn. "We got to know each other," says Machin. "I really warmed to him, thought he was a particularly nice guy. Dave said he was a fan of our previous albums, and watched us almost every night, and, as you do, we said: Hey, we should work on something, at some point in time..."
"The tour together was great," recalls Gahan enthusiastically. "I love Soulsavers and I've also been a Lanegan junkie for years. Rich mentioned doing some writing, and I told him to send over any pieces he liked, however minimal. What Rich does - big grinding bluesy organs, gospel choirs - somehow that touches something in me."
Gahan's lyrics and melodies came to him with spontaneity and passion. "About five songs in, I realised I was writing outside myself. I was having a go at myself, to be honest: my questions around faith, and God, or the lack thereof at any given moment. Sometimes I'm full of faith, but there are always questions. And I struggle with letting go of control of what's going on around me. This album became very therapeutic. No restrictions. Coming out of getting sick myself, I found I HAD to get this stuff out of me. This music gave me the perfect palate to play with the BIG questions that we all ask when life becomes less about what can we GET, than: what can we DO? I've been very fortunate, and I'm privileged in my life, so I want to do things I feel really connected to now, otherwise there's no point. Rich and I had both come out of something difficult. This is something to do with that. It was a wonderful experience."

Pioneering techno duo MOTOR is about to release their fourth album on CLR. After completing three massively successful and critically acclaimed techno albums, Bryan Black and Oly Grasset, who together form the act MOTOR, have shifted gears and recorded a song-based vocal album by the name of "Man Made Machine". The first single, also titled "Man Made Machine", features Martin L. Gore on vocal duties.
Apart from the original and extended versions, the EP contains three additional remixes by Black Asteroid, Radio Slave and Chris Liebing, as well as the "Man Made Machine" video. Just recently, when MOTOR secretly played the original version of the track on a BBC radio broadcast, it got over 10.000 views within hours of being ripped and broadcasted on YouTube. The reactions from Depeche Mode and MOTOR fans are absolutely ecstatic. One online comment, which has often been quoted and agreed to, is that "Man Made Machine" sounds like a modern version of the Depeche Mode track "Personal Jesus" – obviously a royal honour for the guys from MOTOR.
There is no doubt that this EP and the whole album will draw attention from various musical scenes, and the CLR team is very exited about this release. It seems perfectly in line with the label's strong techno roots, as well as with its increasingly open-minded musical philosophy. Chris Liebing himself has always been inspired by the "out of the ordinary" techno approach of MOTOR and is highly pleased to form part of this new chapter in the band's history.

After 30 years working on their respective ongoing music projects, Vince Clarke (Erasure / Yazoo / Depeche Mode) and Martin L. Gore (Depeche Mode) come together for the first time since 1981 as VCMG to release a brand new album on Mute, preceded by a series of EPs.
VCMG is the fruit of initially tentative discussion and subsequent enthused collaboration where Vince and Martin, both influential as pioneers in electronic music, get to exercise their lifelong love of the genre as the techno inspired VCMG.
As Vince explains: "I've been getting into and listening to a lot of minimal dance music and I got really intrigued by all the sounds… I realised I needed a collaborator… so it occurred to me to talk to Martin."
Says Gore: "Out of the blue I got an e-mail from Vince just saying, 'I'm interested in making a techno album. Are you interested in collaborating?' This was maybe a year ago. He said, 'No pressure, no deadlines,' so I said, 'OK'."
The writing and recording of the album was done in a typically unique way with the pair working alone in their respective studios, communicating only via email, exchanging files until the album was ready. It was in May 2011 that the pair met for the first time to discuss the project when they both performed at Short Circuit presents Mute festival in London.
The album 'Ssss' (due out on March 12th on Mute) was produced by Vince Clarke and Martin L. Gore and mixed by the influential Californian electronic artist Überzone / Q.
The first release is an EP entitled Spock. EP1 / SPOCK will feature remixes from Edit-Select, aka Tony Scott, the UK DJ / producer and founder of EditSelect Records whose previous remix credits include Speedy J, Death In Vegas and Gary Beck; Regis, British techno musician Karl O'Connor, member of the Sandwell District collective and co-founder of Downwards Records); Zak aka DVS1, founder of Hush Records and one of the most prominent figures in US dance music counts techno innovator Derrick May amongst his biggest fans, with his second ever release on May's own Transmat plus XOQ, the alter ego of Überzone / Q, who mixed the VCMG album.
EP1 / SPOCK will be available initially as a global exclusive on Beatport on 30 November, and then on all DSPs from 12 December with the 12" release following on 19 December 2011.

Album Featuring Nine Inch Nails, Patti Smith, Depeche Mode, Jack White, The Killers and More Available for Download Exclusively on iTunes
AHK-Toong BAY-Bi Covered, the unique covers album of U2's Achtung Baby featuring Nine Inch Nails, Patti Smith, Depeche Mode, Jack White, The Killers and others, is available for download worldwide starting today exclusively on the iTunes Store, with all proceeds to benefit Concern Worldwide's work in famine-stricken areas of East Africa. The album will be available on iTunes in the UK on November 28th.
With the support of iTunes, the Independent Online Distribution Alliance (IODA) and all of the participating artists, managers & labels, all proceeds from the sale of AHK-Toong BAY-Bi Covered, will support Concern's response to the East Africa crisis, where thousands of children have already died of hunger or related diseases and over 10 million people remain at risk.
"This crisis in East Africa is still very much an emergency and Concern is delighted that all of the parties involved are making this hugely significant contribution to our work in the region," said Concern CEO, Tom Arnold. "We are honored they have chosen Concern as the exclusive beneficiaries."
Mr Arnold added: "It is disappointing that such a major ongoing humanitarian situation has largely disappeared from the media headlines. Offering the proceeds from AHK-Toong BAY-Bi Covered to Concern's East Africa appeal also provides a timely reminder that alleviation of the hunger and wider health crisis in the region must not be forgotten and should remain a global priority." With over 25 years' experience in East Africa, Concern has strong links with local communities and local partners, thereby increasing the agency's effectiveness and impact in getting help and assistance to those that need it most. The agency began responding to the needs of the current emergency since its onset in late 2010 and is currently reaching 680,000 people with clean water, food and nutritional care.
AHK-Toong BAY-Bi Covered, conceived for Q Magazine to mark their 25th Anniversary issue, and coinciding with the 20th Anniversary re-release of Achtung Baby, is available with Q Magazine's December 2011 issue featuring U2 on the cover.
